Rob Edwards must unleash Wolves star who once wowed Ian Wright – he’s ‘got everything’

Wolves find themselves in a position no team in Premier League history has survived from, giving Rob Edwards an almost impossible task.

Wolves appointed Edwards as manager after sacking Vitor Pereira, and he has joined the Old Gold on just two points after 11 Premier League games.

The Wanderers return from the international break with a home clash against Crystal Palace before travelling to rivals Aston Villa.

Several Wolves players will want to impress Edwards in his first game in charge, including someone whose form has taken a downward spiral.

Hwang Hee-chan can revive Wolves’ career under Rob Edwards

Wolves have had problems across all areas of the pitch this season, but particularly in attack, where they’ve scored just nine goals in 11 matches.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – who was the club’s second top scorer last term – has netted just once in nine appearances in 2025/26, while Hwang Hee-chan hasn’t hit the heights he’s capable of.

Hwang once matched Matheus Cunha’s tally of 12 Premier League goals during the 2023/24 campaign, with the 29-year-old expected to continue firing on all cylinders.

Instead, after Wolves rejected a bid for Hwang from Marseille in 2024, the South Korean’s form and confidence have nosedived.

The former RB Leipzig man was hugely popular under Gary O’Neil, but once Pereira replaced him in December, he wasn’t a part of the manager’s plans and now needs to get his career back on track.

Hwang has scored just once in eight top-flight appearances this term, although only five of those have been starts.

As a pressing forward in a two-man striker system, the striker can possibly revive his career under Edwards, perhaps playing alongside Strand Larsen and blossoming into a partnership.

Jorgen Strand Larsen could leave Wolves

Relegation being nailed on opens up the possibility of many players leaving Molineux, and two at the top of that list are Strand Larsen and Joao Gomes.

While Manchester United are courting Gomes, Strand Larsen is interested in quitting Wolves after almost joining Newcastle in the summer.

The 25-year-old arguably accepts that playing Championship football next season is highly likely, and that is why he could force an exit.

That said, Strand Larsen leaving makes Hwang’s contribution all the more important, as he’s unlikely to attract many offers after a woeful year.

Hwang – who sees his contract expire in June 2028 – once left Ian Wright impressed in 2021 after Wolves’ 2-1 win over Newcastle.

“He has got everything, he has got pace, skill, touch and awareness, and he’s always driving to get into the box,” Wright said on Match of the Day.

Hopefully, the South Korean international can reach similar levels under Edwards.
