Rob Green: This is how Monk has been a success with Leeds
By Harvey Byrne
Leeds goalkeeper Rob Green believes consistency has been the key to manager Garry Monk’s success at the club.
The 37-year-old experienced shot-stopper became the summer appointments second permanent signing at the famous club, following Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson.
He has cemented the spot between the sticks and has proven key to helping the side sit in fourth place in the Championship table with his performances, which have seen him keep 14 clean sheets from his 38 league appearances for the club.
Green initially signed on a one-year deal, but he has since earned an extension taking him up until 2018 and he has revealed the secret to Monk’s success in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“When I spoke to the manager he made it evidently clear about the potential of the club,” Green said.

“In recent years there hadn’t been anything to write home about. It was a period of off-the-pitch headlines. To change the tone and change the way the club’s viewed is full credit to the manager, the staff and everyone.
“The manager’s been very consistent, the players have bought into it all and as a senior member of the team, you keep on being consistent with the message. Eventually the performances speak for themselves and they’re positive for the club and the city.
“Managing myself as a senior figure in the group is about picking the moment to impart advice, to speak to players or stick up for players.”
Leeds are currently two points behind third placed Huddersfield and eight points behind Brighton in second with eight matches of the season left.
But, more importantly they sit eight points clear of Fulham in seventh with a clash against play-off rivals Reading coming up next weekend.
Leeds beat the Royals 2-0 in their last meeting in December with goals from Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara and fans will be hoping Monk proves his consistency with another victory at the Madejski Stadium.
In other Leeds news, fans have reacted on Twitter to Pontus Jansson’s display for Sweden.
