Rob Gurney furious with Haji Wright rumour at Coventry – ‘You should be ashamed of yourself’
Haji Wright is not set to leave Coventry in January amid misinformation over his future at the club.
Coventry look well on course to secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time since the 2000-01 season as they continue to maintain a blistering pace at the top of the Championship.
Unsurprisingly, the Sky Blues’ fast start has seen Frank Lampard receive intense attention from Premier League sides in need of a new manager.
Conversely, some of their top players are also likely to be on the watchlist of many of the clubs in the English top-flight ahead of the January transfer window.
Despite Wright having a poor game in a 1-1 draw with Preston on 9 December, the forward is still on the radar of many clubs.

Gurney dispels murmurings of Wright leaving Coventry
While sources told Football Insider on 1 November that Wright is one of Leeds’ top targets in January, the forward looks unlikely to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window.
The 27-year-old has been on fire for the Sky Blues so far this season, netting eight goals in 16 appearances in the Championship.
Given his efficient and ruthless goalscoring, it is no surprise the number 11 has been linked with a move away, although the reality of that happening has been misconstrued.
On BBC CWR (10 December), Coventry legend Steve Ogrizovic supposedly mentioned in the radio program that Wright was looking to leave the club – a statement which he did not actually say but was in fact whipped up into a frenzy, leaving fans astonished on social media.
Host of the show Rob Gurney took to X to dispel the notion that the USA international wants out, saying: “Right. I shouldn’t have to address this, but I will.
“Whoever is peddling lies for clicks & engagement, you clearly don’t care, but should be ashamed of yourself. OGGY DID NOT SAY ANYTHING OF THE SORT. I’ve listened back. End of.”
Coventry destined for Premier League return provided they retain star players
With the Wright rumours well and truly destroyed by Gurney, the Sky Blues can return to their focus on excelling in the Championship and reaching the pinnacle of English football.

Lampard‘s side have lost just twice in 20 matches this season and look primed to secure promotion come the end of the campaign, provided they remain focused.
Indeed, with many Premier League clubs looking to strengthen their squads in January, Coventry will need to fend off any suitors for their brightest and best talent to ensure their upwards trajectory is not disrupted.
The likes of Brandon Thomas-Asante, Victor Torp and Matt Grimes will most certainly receive interest in the upcoming transfer window, yet it is likely the club will fight to hold on to their star men as they eye up the promised land of the English top-flight.
