Robbie Keane’s odds slashed for Crystal Palace appointment, Premier League return edges closer

Robbie Keane appears to be edging closer to being appointed as the next manager of Crystal Palace.

The Irishman is currently in charge of Ferencvaros, but has just seen his odds of taking over at Selhurst Park next season cut dramatically, with one major bookmaker now pricing him at just 8/1 for the job.

The Eagles will wave goodbye to their current boss Oliver Glasner at the end of the season, and work to replace him has already started in South London as the club hierarchy eye up their options.

Keane has been linked with jobs at the likes of Tottenham and Celtic in recent weeks, and now it is Crystal Palace who could be about to push forward towards an appointment.

Who else is in the frame for the Crystal Palace job?

Keane is currently handily placed among the favourites to take over from Glasner at Selhurst next term, but he is far from the only option available to Steve Parish and Co. at the moment.

Tottenham’s sacking of Thomas Frank has catapulted him into contention to take on another role in the capital, and he is currently deemed to be the favourite to land the vacant position this summer, at odds of 9/4.

Former Bayer Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven boss Roger Schmidt is also viewed as one of the favourites for the position, but has been away from management since he was sacked by Benfica in August 2024.

The 58-year-old is now working as the Global Football Advisor for Japan’s J.League, but is seemingly in the frame to potentially take the reins at Crystal Palace.

Former Eagles defender Gareth Southgate is also seen as an outside candidate, despite the fact that has hasn’t returned to football since leaving his post as England manager after Euro 2024.

Could Crystal Palace actually appoint Gareth Southgate?

Southgate may have been out of the spotlight in a managerial sense in recent years, but he still holds a role within the game, and has not totally disconnected himself from the footballing world.

The 55-year-old has worked for UEFA in the role of a technical observer in both the 2025-26 and 2024-25 campaigns, where he works alongside the likes of Portugal boss Roberto Martinez and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Southgate’s current role hinges on his ability to report on the latest developments in coaching, and that has seen him take in several Champions League games across the two seasons.

Football Insider recently revealed that he has no immediate plans to return to management, while he has stated several times since leaving his role with the England setup that he is enjoying his time away from the day-to-day hassle of management.

Palace are potentially one of the only clubs that may be able to tempt him into scratching the itch to return, given his prior connection with them, but at the moment, it looks as though he will be too difficult even for them to convince him.
