Robbie Savage explains gap between Liverpool and Tottenham ahead of clash

Robbie Savage believes that the gap between Liverpool and Tottenham is close, despite the majority tipping Spurs to get a result at Anfield.

The Merseyside club host Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Saturday evening in the Premier League and are looking to end their poor run of form.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have just one victory in their last 10 games across all competitions and are winless in their previous five Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Spurs are currently occupying second in the league table and will go six points behind leaders Chelsea with a victory.

Liverpool’s title aspirations appear to be over for another season, while opponents Spurs are considered to be the main challengers to runaway leaders Chelsea.

However, Savage says there is not much between the two teams as the Reds will go just a point behind Spurs with a win.

“Football is a game of opinions, and the current perception seems to be that Spurs will go to Anfield with the wind in their sails and Kop manager Jurgen Klopp is under pressure to halt the slide,” Savage wrote in the Mirror. “But if the arguments are so convincing, and the evidence is so conclusive, how come Liverpool will be only a point behind Tottenham if they win the game?

“And just remind me: Who outplayed whom for an hour when the sides drew 1-1 at White Hart Lane last September?”

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw in the previous league meeting this season and also get the better of the north London club in the EFL Cup.

They will be desperate to return to winning ways on Saturday and get the top four pursuit back on track.

The Reds are just a point behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have suffered back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Watford.
