Summer appointment Ronald Koeman has handed him with further first team opportunities and the match on Sunday marked his ninth of the campaign.
The goal against City was also a big feat, as it marked his first ever senior goal.
Koeman added central midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to his squad on Thursday in a £20million deal from Manchester United, while Idrissa Gueye is also to return from the AFCON.
However, performances like this from Davies will do his first team chances no harm in the future.
