Roberto De Zerbi increasingly likely to become next Man United manager after latest development

Man United are currently on the hunt for their next manager, despite Michael Carrick’s current success at Old Trafford.

Since being appointed as the caretaker manager, Carrick has overseen back-to-back wins, including a 3-2 victory over Arsenal on the weekend.

However, Football Insider recently revealed that Carrick would have to secure Champions League qualification to land the job permanently.

As a result, other options are being considered, with current Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi continuing to be linked.

Odds slashed on Roberto De Zerbi becoming next Man United manager

De Zerbi has been in the Premier League before and had a successful spell at Brighton between 2022 and 2024, where he delivered European football.

Since moving to Marseille, he has continued to deliver results and has the Ligue 1 outfit third as it stands.

Recently, Football Insider revealed that De Zerbi was a leading candidate for the Man United position after Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

Now, the odds of him coming in have fallen to just 9/1 with one bookmaker.

This makes him the fourth favourite to land the job, with Oddschecker on 29 January confirming that these odds have been reduced.

Who else is in the running for the Man United job?

Unsurprisingly, Carrick is the favourite to land the position on a full-time basis at 6/4.

The manager has done an excellent job so far, with the Red Devils on track to compete in the Champions League next season.

Following the former Middlesbrough boss is Oliver Glasner, who recently announced he would be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

Priced at 4/1, the manager has overseen a real golden period at Selhurst Park, winning both the FA Cup and Community Shield over the past year.

Gareth Southgate also remains in the running at 8/1, while Thomas Tuchel is also an outsider at 10/1.

The former Chelsea manager only recently took charge of the England National Team and has yet to lead them into a single major tournament.

Therefore, it remains to be seen if he would be willing to leave the post so soon and return to life at a domestic club in the Premier League.
