Roberto Firmino expected to quit Liverpool after journalist’s talks update – pundit

Kevin Campbell has tipped Roberto Firmino to exit Liverpool upon the expiration of his contract next June.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested the club would have already tied the 31-year-old down to a new deal “if they were serious about keeping him.”

Firmino’s contract at Anfield expires on 30 June 2023.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed via CaughtOffside (20 October) that the Brazil international is regarded as an important player by the club with a decision on his future expected in the new year.

It is said that talk of AC Milan and Juventus holding talks over potentially signing Firmino are premature.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “I cannot see him staying.

“That is if I am being totally honest.

“If the club were serious about keeping him they would have already got him negotiated an extra couple of years. When you let a player of his profile get into the final 12 months of his contract, the writing is on the wall in my opinion.

“If he scores 12 goals I’m sure Liverpool will be moving heaven and earth to keep him.

“But right now, I think he will leave next summer. It will be a changing of the guard.”

Firmino has been in impressive form this season.

He has contributed eight goals and four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions.
