Robinson ‘amazed’ by Manuel Akanji after Man City dressing room reveal

Paul Robinson is “amazed” by Manuel Akanji’s impact at Man City both on and off the field.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 27-year-old “will only get better under Pep Guardiola’s management.”

Akanji started the Cityzens’ 1-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday (29 October).

As revealed by Statman Dave, the centre-half maintained an impressive pass completion rate of 99 per cent while making 36 passes into the final third.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (28 October), Guardiola revealed the club are “delighted” with how the summer signing has settled in off the pitch as well.

Guardiola heaped praise on Akanji’s “attitude” and presence in “the locker room.”

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Akanji’s form, Robinson said: “Akanji has been amazing this year.

“His performances have surpassed expectations.

“Pep spoke very highly of him. Pep clearly trusts him.

“He is young but he has settled into that team so quickly. He has kept [Ruben] Dias out of the team at times.

“Akanji has been almost the first choice centre-back. He is a top-class centre-back and I think there will be more to come from him. He will only get better under Pep Guardiola’s management.”

Akanji has been one of the standout defenders in the Premier League this season.

He has made 10 appearances across all competitions.

In other news, a source has revealed Man City fear one of their key players will snub a contract offer and leave next summer.
