Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Connor Goldson as the defender closes in on a new contract at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed the 28-year-old is “such an asset” to Steven Gerrard and said the Light Blues rely on him “very heavily”.
Goldson has played every single minute of the Gers’ 53 games across all competitions this season.
He played an integral part in ending the club’s 10-year wait for a Scottish Premiership title last month by helping the defence keep a league-high 24 clean sheets.
Football Insider understands the centre-half has agreed in principle to sign a new long-term agreement worth in the region of £30,000-a-week.
Signed from Brighton in July 2018, Goldson will enter the final year of his current agreement at Ibrox next month.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the Englishman’s season, Robinson, who is who is friends with and a former teammate of Gerrard, said:
“It is no surprise at all that he has been offered a new deal.
“To play every week and every minute tells you that Steven Gerrard regards him incredibly highly.
“He is integral to that side and is such an asset to the manager.
“There is nothing better than having the manager’s confidence in you. If you are playing in a team that suits you and the manager picks you every week it is a great feeling.
“Steven relies on him very heavily. From a player’s point of view, it does not get much better.”
