Robinson demands law be rewritten as Man City controversy analysed

Paul Robinson has called for the handball law to be reviewed after Man City manager Pep Guardiola confessed he does not understand the rule anymore.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested referees, managers and players are “fed up” of the lack of clarity over handballs.

Man City’s goalless draw against FC Copenhagen was characterised by two controversial handball decisions.

Rodri saw a sublime striker disallowed because of handball from Riyad Mahrez moments earlier.

Speaking to BT Sport (11 October), Guardiola said he no longer understands the handball rule.

The City boss cited decision in Barcelona’s loss to Inter Milan and Liverpool’s defeat at Arsenal when discussing the law.

When asked by Football Insider if the handball law should be reviewed in light of recent controversies, Robinson said: “The handball is one of the biggest grey areas in football.

I’m sure referees are fed up of it as well. The players, the managers, nobody knows what the rule is. Nothing is clear.

Look how many goals we have been deprived of recently because a ball brushed a hand in the build-up.

There needs to be a meeting where they look at the rules again. The problem is, they have already done that and we have got to here. It has got be looked at again.”

Speaking after the draw with FC Copenhagen, Guardiola said: “Inter Milan vs Barcelona last week.

Did you see what happened with Arsenal and Liverpool? So, no [I don’t understand it].”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Sergio Gomez could be set for a lengthy spell on Man City sidelines after development.
