Robinson fumes after ’embarrassing’ Mohamed Salah controversy at Liverpool

Paul Robinson has slammed the officials for ruling out Toti Gomes’ goal for Wolves against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the decision was “embarrassing” and “a complete and utter farce”.

Wolves drew 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup on Saturday (7 January).

The visitors thought they had won the game late on when Toti Gomes scored past Alisson Becker.

However, the defender’s celebrations were cut short as the linesman had his flag up for offside.

VAR official Mike Dean reviewed the decision but was forced to stick with the on-field decision because of the camera angles available.

It was one of two controversial decisions in the game, with Mohamed Salah‘s goal also raising questions of offside.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the decision to chalk off Gomes’ late goal, Robinson said: “It was a complete and utter farce.

“VAR was embarrassed. They could not explain how the decision came about.

“If they give the Salah goal they have to give that goal. You can understand why Wolves are frustrated.

“VAR really failed. They hid behind the on-field decision. Wolves have every reason to feel aggrieved because if that was given they would have more than likely gone on to win the game.

“Liverpool got away with one if we are being totally honest.”
