Robinson issues ‘huge’ Newcastle United claim after Alexander Isak picture emerges

Paul Robinson has claimed Alexander Isak’s return to fitness it “vitally important” for Newcastle United heading into 2023.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “it will be huge” if the 23-year-old is ready for the resumption on the Premier League on Boxing Day.

As pictured by club media (5 December), Isak has travelled with the Magpies squad for their mid-season training camp in Saudi Arabia.

The Sweden international has been training alongside his teammates but did not feature in the friendly against Al Hilal on Thursday (8 December).

Isak has been sidelined since the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in mid-September because of injury.

When asked by Football Insider how significant the striker’s return from injury will be for Eddie Howe’s side, Robinson said: “It will be massive.

“Callum Wilson’s injury record is so poor. They need Isak to be fit and firing when the season resumes.

“Wilson is one of these players that has to be 100 per cent fit. He doesn’t seem to be able to play through niggles. That is understandable because of the injuries and setbacks he has had.

“Therefore, it is vital that Isak is fit. It will be huge if Isak is ready for the games after Christmas.

“They spent a lot of money on him and he started ever so well. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off.”
