Robinson issues Liverpool dressing room verdict as controversial Darwin Nunez footage analysed

Paul Robinson expects the Liverpool dressing room to go easy on Darwin Nunez following his red card for violet conduct against Crystal Palace on Monday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 23-year-old “does not need telling” after his head butt at Anfield.

As shown on Sky Sports (15 August), Nunez was dismissed after clashing with Palace defender Joachim Andersen in the second-half of a 1-1 draw on Monday night.

The striker was ushered away from referee Paul Tierney by teammate James Milner after reacting angrily to the decision.

The summer signing from Benfica will serve a three-game ban for his actions.

He will miss games against Man United, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

When asked by Football Insider how the dressing room would likely react to the incident, Robinson said: “It is what it is.

“All top players have an edge and you like to see that at times.

“That is a huge lesson for Nunez in his first game at Anfield. I don’t think you will see it repeated through the season. He has an edge and we will see that side to him. You cannot cross the line though. It was as big a lesson you can have on your home debut.

“As far as the dressing room goes, they will not be hard on him. Nunez does not need telling.

“Liverpool got away with the result last night. I think Jurgen Klopp may speak with Nunez but as I said, he won’t need telling.”
