Robinson reveals Darwin Nunez fear as Liverpool footage analysed

Paul Robinson fears Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will be targeted by Premier League defenders this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England goalkeeper suggested centre-backs will be licking their lips after watching Joachim Andersen wind up the 23-year-old striker.

As shown on Sky Sports (15 August), Nunez was dismissed after clashing with Palace defender Andersen in the second-half of a 1-1 draw between the two sides on Monday.

The summer signing from Benfica will serve a three-game ban for his actions and miss games against Man United, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

He will return to contention for Liverpool’s first Merseyside derby of the season at Goodison Park on 3 September.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the challenges facing Nunez after his dismissal at Anfield, Robinson said: “Now other defenders have seen that, they will play on that.

“Defenders are clever. Whoever he plays against, they will try to wind him up.

“Managers will say to their team, ‘Wind him up. He is an easy target. Let’s get him booked and get him sent off.’

“What Andersen did to him was fair enough. He played him well. Nunez reacted and Andersen got his reward. He got exactly what he wanted.

“Other defenders will now doubt target him similarly. Nunez is in for a rough couple of months.

“He has to learn to keep a lid on his temper.”
