Robinson tells Tottenham to snub Benitez and appoint young boss like Parker as talks lined up
Tottenham should resist the urge to appoint an experienced manager in the mould of Ralf Rangnick or Rafael Benitez, according to Paul Robinson.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the club should choose a young English manager and cited Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker as potential candidates.
This site revealed earlier today Tottenham are weighing up moves for Benitez and Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa amid a shift in their new manager hunt.
It comes after the board have lost out on Julian Nagelsmann to Bayern Munich and have given up hope of luring Brendan Rodgers from Leicester City.
Robinson suggested the 40-year-old would be a smart choice.

“I do not think for one minute they should bring in someone like a Ralf Rangnick figure,” he told Football Insider. “They need someone younger.
“Rangnick has such respect and presence in world football and he would have great pull in the transfer market but why not give one of these young English managers a chance?
“We talk about Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann as two of the brightest managers in world football but what about Scott Parker and Steven Gerrard? Just because they are English they do not get talked about in the same bracket.
“I would love to see them given an opportunity because when you look down at that list, the likes of Rafa Benitez, nothing stands out.
“Spurs need to appoint a young manager and give him backing. Whoever it is they need to put their own stamp on the team. It is a big transitional period and it is so important that they get this appointment right.”
