Robinson: This may be real reason Ward-Prowse wants to quit Southampton for Aston Villa
Southampton will sell James Ward-Prowse this summer if Aston Villa meet their valuation.
That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s future at St. Mary’s.
The centre-midfielder is one Dean Smith’s top transfer targets this summer.
As revealed by Football Insider on 21 June, Ward-Prowse is interested in swapping St. Mary’s for Villa Park.
The England international, who narrowly missed out on Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the Euros, sees Villa as an upgrade on Southampton.
Ward-Prowse will not come cheap though.

He has four years remaining on his contract on the south coast, having put pen to paper on a new deal last August.
Robinson believes international prospects could be at the heart of a move potential move.
“Southampton normally sell their best players on but Ward-Prowse is so established there though so in this case it could be different,” he told Football Insider.
“He would be a great signing for Aston Villa though and in truth, Villa are moving forward faster than Southampton. They are a bigger club as well.
“If he moved I think it would enhance his international opportunities and for that reason I think it is a move the player will try and push through.
“Southampton will not want to do business but they are a club that will do business at the right price, of that I’m sure. I think Villa can get the deal through if they are willing to pay.”
