Callum Robinson will start for West Brom against Southampton after an “absolutely brilliant” display against Chelsea last weekend.
That is the view of former England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about whether the 26-year-old has forced Sam Allardyce’s had ahead of Monday night’s game.
Robinson was named on the bench for the unexpected 5-2 victory over Chelsea last Saturday, but was brought on after 37 minutes because of an injury to Branislav Ivanovic.
He scored twice in his 53 minutes on the pitch to boost Albion’s slim hopes of beating the drop this season.
The Baggies welcome Southampton to The Hawthorns on Monday and Paul Robinson is adamant the forward, who has not started a league game since mid-February, will be included in the first XI.
“Callum Robinson was absolutely brilliant,” he told Football Insider.
“Let’s be honest, he’s been starved of game time. That was probably a bit of the motivation and incentive behind what was such an amazing performance from him. The two finishes were great.
“It was such an impressive performance from West Brom. Before the game, if you put Chelsea out there with 10-men, you would have said it would be a very difficult ask. It was not just the victory it was the way they pressed Chelsea high.
“That team does not change, bar Robinson who played most of the game anyway. It was one of the most impressive West Brom wins I can remember for a long time.”
