Robinson verdict on Tottenham unearthing next Bernardo Silva after manager quotes emerge

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham attacker Bryan Gil has “a long way to go” before he can be compared to Man City’s Bernardo Silva.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Gil, 21, “is improving” but is still some way off being an elite Premier League player.

Gil has been a regular substitute for Spurs in the Champions League this season.

The Spain under-21 international also caught the eye in his one Premier League outing against Bournemouth on 29 October.

As quoted by the Evening Standard (28 October), Antonio Conte compared the attacking midfielder to Bernardo Silva in his style of play.

However, he admitted Gil is not as physically strong as the Man City and Portugal star.

When asked by Football Insider if Gil has the potential to reach the level of Bernardo in years to come, Robinson said: In all honesty, Bryan Gil and Bernardo Silva?

“There is a long way to go in that respect.

I saw Bernardo Silva for 5 Live against Brighton the other week and what a player he is. Even when he has an average game he is unbelievable.

Gil is improving but I still think he is a way off a player like Bernardo Silva. If Gil can become half the player Bernardo Silva is Spurs will have a real player on their hands.”
