Rod Stewart's claim on future of Celtic senior man is spectacularly ill-timed

There was a bizarre incident in the run-up to Celtic’s upcoming Europa League clash with Zenit, when noted Hoops fan Rod Stewart appeared on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSport.
Stewart has claimed that Brendan Rodgers would be a good candidate to take over from Mauricio Pochettino should be depart Tottenham in the summer.
“Does he want to move back to the Premier League? Of course he does. He can only take Celtic so far. He’s a class manager,” Stewart said, as quoted on the TalkSport website.
“I can imagine, maybe once the Tottenham manager goes, he would be a great for Spurs.”
Whilst the Hoops senior man would no doubt ignore these comments or laugh them off, the timing of them is spectacularly ill-timed, as the Bhoys are only hours away from the massive second leg against Zenit, and any distractions – even a small one such as this – is annoying, to both the club and it’s supporters.
It’s likely that it will all be forgotten about as the game goes ahead, but it could be picked up on in the summer, especially if Pochettino does leave Spurs.
Rodgers however, will just be concentrating on the game against Roberto Mancini’s side, and getting the Hoops through to the last 16 of a European knockout competition for the first time in five years.
The Hoops boss will be looking for a similar performance in the second leg that he got from his players in the first leg, a match which the Hoops dominated.
