'Unfortunate' - Rodgers shares how long Celtic skipper Brown will be sidelined in new blow
By James Black
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed star midfield duo Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong will be out of action for a few weeks – calling it “unfortunate” for both Celtic and the Scottish national team.
Brown limped off after 70 minutes in the midweek win over Anderlecht while Armstrong was an unused substitute in Belgium.
The pair have been key players so far this season as the Hoops have stormed into an early lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership and may neccessitate a tactical reshuffle ahead of the visit of Hibernian this weekend.
The former Liverpool boss claimed the new blows are not too serious and both could return after the upcoming international break.
“Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong won’t be available for a few weeks,” Rodgers said at his media conference earlier today, as quoted by Celtic’s official Twitter account.

“Light strains so it’s unfortunate for us and Scotland.
“We dont think it’s overly serious but, obviously, it puts them out the game tomorrow and of course then international games.”

As well as missing Neil Lennon’s return to Celtic Park tomorrow, Brown and Armstrong will be absent when Scotland take on Slovakia and Slovenia in their final qualifying fixtures for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
With both players ruled out it could see Nir Bitton restored to a midfield berth, either alongside or in preference to Olivier Ntcham, as both Brown and Armstrong have regularly played in the deeper midfield role in Celtic’s side.
After the international break, Celtic host Dundee on October 14th before travelling to Germany to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League four days later.
Both players should be fit to return to action by then as the Hoops aim for a European football after Christmas and a seventh successive Scottish Premiership title.
