In-form Celtic player is major doubt for clash v Dundee - confirmed
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer is a major doubt to face Dundee on Wednesday after suffering a head injury in the win over Aberdeen.
The 19-year-old in-form ace suffered the injury in a collision with his own team-mate Jozo Simunovic, and Rodgers has admitted that the severity of the injury could see the Norwegian miss out.
“We need to assess Kristoffer over the next 24 hours on that one because his eye was fully closed,” the Hoops boss said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“He took a real bad knock on his head and on his shin but he has had that patched up.
“It will just be the eye. We will see how that responds over next 24 hours.”
Ajer has been a stand-out in the Hoops side since becoming a regular following the 4-0 loss to Hearts in December.
Despite playing with an array of centre-back partners, he has managed to turn in a series of solid performances, and was one of the few players to come out of the recent Europa League clash with Zenit with any credit at all.
After suffering the head injury against the Dons, the player managed to continue on and was as dependable as ever as the ten men of Celtic managed to win 2-0.
If Ajer misses out against Dundee, Jack Hendry is likely to take his place against the team he was signed from in January.
The Hoops will be determined to pick up three points against the Dens Park side, as they look to maintain their nine point lead over Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
