Rodgers delivers a hilarious reaction to Celtic losing unbeaten record v Hearts

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Celtic wouldn’t have scored on Sunday even if they had played five games, in a hilarious reaction to finally losing their unbeaten record.

Speaking after the 4-0 defeat with BBC Sportsround (Sunday 14:46), the Hoops boss admitted Hearts were simply the better team and that his side did well to go 69 domestic games unbeaten.

“I need to give credit to Hearts, it’s a thoroughly deserved win; they were the better team,” revealed Rodgers.

“We didn’t cope with their physicality, we made too many mistakes, we could have played five games today and not scored a goal.”

Hearts took the lead in the 26th minute through Harry Cohrane before Kyle Lafferty doubled his side’s advantage before the half-time break.

Manuel Milinkovic then scored a brace in the second-half to make it 4-0, with his second goal coming from the penalty to spot.

The defeat leaves Celtic atop of Scottish Premiership two points clear of second place Aberdeen, but the Hoops still have a game in hand.

The Hoops had previously broken a British 100-year-record by going 69 domestic games unbeaten, the previous record was 62, and Rodgers was now just focused on getting back to winning ways quickly.

“I also want to congratulate my players to have gone through 69 games and this to be their first defeat,” said Rodgers.

“Now that the run is finished, we want to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.”

The Bhoys are next in action on Wednesday when they host Partick Thistle.

Celtic have already defeated Patrick Thistle this season, beating them 1-0 in August.
