Rodgers must choose Celtic signing after being forced into January deal – pundit
Brendan Rodgers must have the final say on Celtic signings this summer – especially the new goalkeeper.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie warned Celtic that the squad must be formed in the manager’s image and incomings must have the “right attitude”.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider (23 April) that the Hoops, along with Southampton and PSV Eindhoven, are plotting moves to sign Austrian goalkeeper Patrick Pentz.
A new shot-stopper will be the club’s transfer priority this summer after Joe Hart announced he will retire at the end of the season and after three campaigns as Celtic’s number one.
Celtic must give Rodgers full reign on new signings – McAvennie
Football Insider also revealed (9 April) that Rodgers was left “furious” with the club’s business since his return and is set to demand full backing from the board in the summer transfer window.
McAvennie urged the Glasgow giants to recruit a new goalkeeper who would fit well into the dressing room and buy into the culture – and hopes Pentz would bring a Hart-level impact to Parkhead.
“I think Brendan has got to pick the goalkeeper, he can’t be forced into signing any more players he doesn’t want,” he told Football Insider.
“He has to pick the team and the transfers.
“I don’t think Nicolas Kuhn was his player.
“They have to find players who have the right attitude and can walk straight into the dressing room.
“Joe Hart has been a huge success at Celtic – not just because of what he’s done between the sticks, but for the dressing room too.

“He’s a big name and a big player and he will be missed.
“So I hope this boy Pentz can bring something like that.”
