Brendan Rodgers responds when asked if Rangers return helps Scottish football
By Danny Wright
Brendan Rodgers has dismissed the notion that having Rangers back in the Scottish Premiership is beneficial to Celtic or the nation’s football as a whole.
The Light Blues returned to the top-flight last season and many believe that their rivalry with the Hoops is one of the most defining parts of Scottish football.
In Rangers’ absence, Celtic won every league title and have continued to reign supreme over their bitter Glasgow rivals in all domestic competitions, especially last season when Rodgers led his men to the treble without suffering a defeat while Gers were well off the pace in third.
When asked if Rangers’ return to the Premiership was good for the Bhoys and football as a whole in Scotland, Rodgers was quoted by the Daily Mail as responding: “If you’re in a race, you never look back, you always look forward. The only football club I ever worry about is Celtic.”
Celtic have won the last six league titles in Scotland with four of them coming while their Old Firm rivals were languishing in the lower divisions.
The Hoops have had an impressive start to this season with them continuing their unbeaten run in domestic competitions despite being held to a draw by St. Johnstone in their last fixture, leaving them in second place in the league behind Aberdeen, who have a 100 per cent record.
Rodgers and his side return to league action on Friday when they travel to Hamilton.
