Celtic players threatened with the axe

Brendan Rodgers has claimed there are a number of talented players at Celtic who could become “hidden” among the success of the club and will be axed from the squad if they don’t meet his demands.
The Celtic manager has enforced high intensity training and a big emphasis on work ethic since his arrival in the summer and it has proven successful.
His side have dominated the Scottish Premiership this season and they still remain unbeaten in domestic competition this season after an impressive run which led to success in the Betfred Cup.
However, Rodgers will not tolerate any players who are not putting in a 100% and he admitted he could be forced to be ruthless in the transfer window if he sees signs of anyone failing to pull their weight.
“You can be hidden and you can be protected a little bit, which means you don’t have to work quite so hard because your ability takes you there. No chance. If you’re not working here you will be out, regardless of your talent,” said Rodgers, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Some players will struggle to keep up. Their talent is there, but they can’t keep up with the demand. So your talent won’t be protected. You can be a good player, but it’s not enough.”
Celtic picked up all three points in their last league clash against Rangers in the latest Old Firm derby at the Ibrox on New Year’s Eve and they are not in action until Sunday.
They will take on Albion Rovers in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup and will hope to extend their unbeaten run of the season in domestic games.
Rodgers’ side currently sit at the top of the table by 19 points over Rangers and they still have a game in hand on their local rivals.
Celtic have not currently sold any players in the January transfer window but they are expected to confirm the arrival of Kouassi Eboue when his work permit has been accepted.
In other Celtic news, the two Old Firm clubs have locked horns in an off-field dispute.
