Rodrigo Bentancur breaks social media silence after confirmed Tottenham news
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has taken to social media for the first time after receiving a seven-game ban for using a racial slur against teammate Son Heung-Min.
The FA have also fined the 27-year-old £100,000 and he will be forced to attend a face-to-face education programme following comments made while on TV in his home country of Uruguay.
Bentancur won’t be back in action until December 26, ruling him out of crucial Premier League clashes with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea, as well as Tottenham’s League Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.
He will remain available for Spurs’ Europa League campaign, however, with his ban not applying to games outside of England.
Rodrigo Bentancur causes major problems at Tottenham
The central midfielder has been a key player for Ange Postecoglu so far this season, playing 15 games across all competitions for Spurs.
He’s arguably been the club’s most consistent player so far this season, having made 16 interceptions, 42 recoveries, and a pass accuracy rate of 91 per cent across his ten Premier League appearances.
His fine form earned him a call-up to the Uruguay squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Brazil, taking to Instagram to share an image posted by international teammate Manuel Ugarte.

Bentancur has given Postecoglu an unnecessary headache ahead of the hectic festive period with his side sitting down in tenth with 16 points from their opening 11 Premier League games.
The international break came at a good time for Spurs as they seek to put a devastating 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town behind them and secure their second win over Man City so far this season on Saturday (November 23).
