Rodrigo Bentancur shares update after devastating Tottenham blow

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has taken to social media to let fans know he’s “all good” after picking up an injury in their 1-0 League Cup win over Liverpool on Wednesday (January 8).

The 27-year-old was stretchered off the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the early minutes of the game, having collapsed while trying to head the ball towards goal from a corner.

Spurs soon shared an update on X, formally known as Twitter, saying: “We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking, and will go to hospital for further checks.”

The win against Liverpool was Bentancur’s third consecutive start having served a seven-game suspension for racist comments about teammate Heung-Min Son.

Lucas Bergvall scored the eventual winner in the 86th minute, his first since joining the club in the summer, giving Ange Postecoglu’s side an advantage going into the second leg at Anfield.

The Uruguay international has been key for Spurs this season, despite his recent suspension, starting 15 of his 20 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing one assist in his 1180 minutes of action.

Bentancur took to Instagram after the win over Liverpool to confirm he was fine, saying: “All good guys! Thank you for the messages! Congratulations for the victory boys!”

Spurs have seven games between now and the second leg on February 6th, starting with an FA Cup tie against non-league Tamworth.

After that, Ange Postecoglu will turn his attention to the Premier League, with a North London Debry against arch-rivals Arsenal coming up.
