Rodriguez tipped to be frozen out at Everton after near-£25m reveal - pundit

James Rodriguez may be set to be frozen out at Everton but he will not rush to leave, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Rodriguez is not in Rafa Benitez’s plan for the season.

Football Insider revealed on September 12 Everton failed to offload the attacker over the summer because of his staggering £250,000-a-week wages.

He signed a two-year deal after moving from Real Madrid last summer meaning he could take home £24million if he sees out his contract.

It is understood that the bumper contract meant the 30-year-old became Everton’s highest-ever paid player.

Rodriguez is yet to make a matchday squad this term as Benitez enjoys an impressive start to his Goodison rein.

The Toffees are unbeaten in the Premier League with three wins from their opening four games.

Asked whether Rodriguez will find it difficult to get back into Benitez’s starting XI, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yeah, it’s hard.

“He’s not in the manager’s plans so he’s got to look for the right move for him and his family.

“He maybe didn’t rush out of the door because it wasn’t the right move for him.

“He’s a quality player still so I’m sure he’ll get the right move for him.”

Rodriguez scored six times and provided nine assists in 26 games across all competitions in his first season at Everton.

The 80-time Colombia international followed Carlo Ancelotti to Merseyside last summer but after an indifferent season he moved to Real Madrid.

In other news, Benitez is working on luring a “World-Class” star to Everton in January.
