Rogers and Tielemans react to Tyrone Mings amid Aston Villa ‘legal action’ claim
Tyrone Mings caught the attention of his teammates on social media amid controversy around Aston Villa and potential legal action against the Premier League.
Unai Emery‘s side missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season, losing 2-0 to Man United on Sunday, 25 May, coming after Emi Martinez‘s sending-off.
That, however, was not the most contentious of moments as Morgan Rogers saw his goal chalked off by referee Thomas Bramall after dispossessing Altay Bayindir, who was deemed to be in control of the ball.
Due to the highly questionable call, which VAR was unable to intervene in due to the referee’s early whistle, Richard Keys backed Villa to take legal action against the Premier League, and understandably so.
Ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett, though, told Football Insider that the Premier League and referees are protected against any such actions from the Villans, despite missing out on up to £100million in revenue [BBC Sport].
Tyrone Mings coming to terms with Champions League blow
Taking to Instagram (26 May), Mings wrote: “Feeling something between gratitude and frustration… And that’s what will drive us to achieve more,” with Rogers commenting: “My brother.”
Youri Tielemans, Martinez, Lucas Digne, and Marco Asensio all liked the post in a show of solidarity, with the club still fuming after Bramall’s decision-making at Old Trafford.
Unai Emery dealt crushing financial blow at Aston Villa
Football Insider verdict
Tielemans had already been linked with a Villa exit amid concerns over the PSR situation this season, and that is only going to worsen without qualification for the Champions League next term.
There is also a worry over Mings’ future at Villa Park, with the defender only having one more season left until his contract expires, and the club’s wage bill is in desperate need of lowering this summer.
Missing out on Champions League football has completely wiped away any chances of Marcus Rashford signing on a permanent deal this summer, and it could also mean the exit of multiple key players.
Premier League standings | Points |
2. Arsenal | 74 |
3. Man City | 71 |
4. Chelsea | 69 |
5. Newcastle United | 66 |
6. Aston Villa | 66 |
Ollie Watkins, Martinez, and Rogers could all be sold to help the financial situation, ultimately against the club’s wishes, so it is understandable why supporters are pushing for legal action to be taken.
Sadly, it does not appear that Villa will be winning any millions back from the Premier League after Bramall’s blunder at Old Trafford, and it is set to take its toll at Villa Park over the coming months.
