Rogers and Watkins react to Asensio’s message as Aston Villa loan runs down

Marco Asensio has sent an emotional message as his loan spell at Aston Villa nears its end, prompting a response from a number of his teammates.

The attacker joined Unai Emery‘s side on loan from PSG until the end of the season back in the winter transfer window.

Following a strong start to his stint with the club in which he found the net on several occasions, a number of Aston Villa fans had called for the club to sign Asensio permanently.

However, those goals have dried up in recent times, with the striker missing numerous chances to add to his tally.

One such example came when Asensio missed not one but two penalties during his side’s trip to Southampton.

As a result, Football Insider has been told that Aston Villa may now elect not to sign the striker permanently from PSG this summer, with a final decision on his future seemingly still to be made.

Marco Asensio reacts to Tottenham win

On Friday (16 May), Emery’s side played their final home game at Villa Park this season, as they hosted Tottenham.

Although he did not get on the scoresheet, Asensio produced an impressive performance as Aston Villa claimed a 2-0 win over Spurs.

That ensures the club still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League going into their final day clash with Man United at Old Trafford on Sunday 25 May.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on that win and look ahead to that clash on the final day, Asensio wrote: “What a night at Villa Park. 1 more!!”

In response, Morgan Rogers commented on that post by “Vamossss”, while a number of other Aston Villa players such as Ollie Watkins, Tyrone Mings, Matty Cash and Youri Tielemans all liked the post.

Aston Villa have tough decision to make over PSG deal

Football Insider Verdict

This is going to be a busy summer for Emery’s side when it comes to their attacking options, where it will be vital they maintain some decent firepower.

It also remains to be seen if Marcus Rashford will return once his loan spell at Villa Park comes to an end, while question have also emerged around the future of Ollie Watkins.

With that in mind, there could still be a need for Aston Villa to bring Asensio back in the summer to ensure they are not leaving themselves short in attack.

Ultimately though, goals are needed from players in that role, something the Spaniard has been short on in recent weeks, so he may need to show he can turn that round quickly.

So with one game of the season to go, that clash with Man United may be decisive when it comes to Asensio’s future.

That is particularly the case given the impact it may have on whether or not Aston Villa can offer Champions League football to potential signings in the summer.
