The Celtic squad’s trip to Dubai has been savaged by fans and the media but players are well within their rights to unwind after giving so much to 10-in-a-row.
That is according to former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs after controversial images surfaced showing Celtic players and staff lounging by a pool and drinking beer as they enjoyed a mid-season holiday.
Celtic set off on their jaunt mere hours after losing 1-0 in the Second Olf Firm derby of the season, drawing anger and ridicule from both their own fans and others.
Imagine we had been knocked out the Champions League qualifiers, finished bottom of our Europa League group, knocked out the league cup by Ross County and 19 points behind in the league, then Gerrard and Tav where pictured drinking pints in Dubai whilst we were in lockdown? 🤣 pic.twitter.com/40dWeFnAdD

Asked by Football Insider whether this cast the club in a negative light, Campbell argued: “There is no wrong message. The guys work hard, the guys put a shift in at the weekend, they won the cup too.
“They’re just having a little break, it should be allowed. Are they rolling around drunk and fighting? No, they’re just relaxing and having a couple of beers. I mean, come on…
“These are grown men. And out in Dubai, you’re not allowed to go unless you’ve got a negative test. It’s a safe environment, leave them be. After all they’ve done, they deserve at least a couple of beers.”
After the Old Firm defeat, Celtic trail Rangers by 19 points in the Scottish Premiership, leading many to believe that the title race is all but over.
If that is the case, Steven Gerrard’s side will have successfully stopped their rivals from attaining their coveted tenth title in a row.
