Romelu Lukaku responds to Amadou Onana in new message – ‘stop trying me’

Amadou Onana and Romelu Lukaku jokingly exchanged messages on social media after their contrasting ends to the season.

Lukaku was at the forefront of an historic Serie A Scudetto victory with Napoli this term, and scored 14 goals as Antonio Conte’s side picked up their second title in three seasons and only a fourth of all time.

Meanwhile, Onana’s Aston Villa side suffered final-day heartbreak in the Premier League with a controversial 2-0 loss at Manchester United which cost them a Champions League place in the process.

Villa being denied a potential windfall of £200million could prove costly this summer as PSR restrictions bite for Unai Emery’s side, but Onana is one player whose future seems secure after his debut season.

Onana ‘trying Lukaku already’ after Aston Villa disappointment

Onana was one of several Villa players who expressed their disappointment after that costly defeat at Old Trafford, which saw the Lions finish behind fifth-placed Newcastle on goal difference alone.

The 23-year-old has since joined up with his Belgium team-mates on international duty after he missed the Red Devils’ two matches in March through injury, and was quick to reunite with Lukaku in training.

Onana shared an Instagram story (2 June) in which he said; “Vamooooos” to Lukaku, and the Napoli striker responded with a posted of his own on Tuesday, saying: “Day one and my brother trying me already”.

Lukaku intervenes to prevent Aston Villa transfer

Villa’s failure to climb into the Champions League places in the final weeks of the season has been two-pronged, with forced player sales now likely before Emery can bring in any of his main transfer targets.

Emery had lined up an ambitious move for outgoing Manchester City captain and legend Kevin De Bruyne, but he’s keen to continue playing in the Champions League and has since opted for Napoli instead.

Lukaku’s close relationship with his Belgium team-mate De Bruyne and Napoli head coach Conte have played a “special role” in the midfielder’s move to Naples, and that will rub further salt in the wounds of a crestfallen Villa fanbase.
