Ross Barkley backed to accept Celtic offer after update – Agbonlahor

Ross Barkley may be open to a move to Celtic, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Barkley can get his career back on track at Celtic as no Premier League clubs would be interested in him.

The Athletic’s Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips told Givemesport last week (6 August) that the Hoops are one of a number of clubs open to signing the 28-year-old.

The midfielder, who has less than 12 months left on his Chelsea contract, does not look to have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge after being left out of the matchday squad for the 1-0 win over Everton last week (6 August).

Ange Posetecoglou told Sky Sports on Friday (12 August) that he still wanted “one or two” fresh faces in his squad before the transfer window closes.

Asked whether Barkley could refind his best form at Parkhead, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think so, yes.

“Ross Barkley has not lived up to the hype since he joined Chelsea.

“He had some good games at Aston Villa but he didn’t keep it up for the whole season.

“Premier League clubs will be put off by him, to be honest. I don’t think Premier League clubs would look at him at the moment, to be honest.

“Scotland is somewhere he can go and get some good form under his belt.

“It would be a good move for him, somewhere he can step it up.

“He’s a 28-year-old who needs to get back to enjoying his football.”
