Ross Wilson cited after Rangers finalise ‘ridiculous’ Kieran Dowell signing – pundit
Frank McAvennie has slammed recent Rangers signing Kieran Dowell.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said that the Gers are not adequately replacing the talent that they let go.
Last Wednesday (24 May), the Light Blues confirmed the signing of Dowell from Norwich City on a pre-contract and he will join the Ibrox club officially on 1 July when his contract expires.
The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year deal in Glasgow and becomes Michael Beale’s first summer signing.
The midfielder joined the Canaries from Everton, where he spent most of his career out on loan.
Dowell made 25 appearances for Norwich across all competitions this season and netted five goals in those outings.
Last week (23 May), the Gers also confirmed the players leaving Ibrox at the end of the season when their contracts expire.
Allan McGregor, Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield and Filip Helander are all leaving for free in the coming months.
When asked if there should have been more outcry about the departing players, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think there was a lot of outcry before and then Ross Wilson left.
“I think fans are just accepting it now but it is just ridiculous.

“They are bringing in players and I do not know if they are going to be any better than what they are letting go.
“Dowell can’t get a game for Norwich and everyone is calling him a wonderkid and all that. He might come up here and do well but I just think if you can’t get a game for Norwich you can’t be that good.“
