Rothwell tipped to dazzle at Rangers in 2022 as ‘bargain’ deal reported – Campbell

Kevin Campbell has backed Joe Rothwell to take the Scottish Premiership by storm next season amid reported interest from Rangers in his signature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker said the 26-year-old would be “an absolute bargain” on a free transfer.

According to The Scottish Sun (October 19th), a move to Ibrox is ‘almost certain’ for the Blackburn Rovers midfielder.

Rothwell‘s contract at Ewood Park runs out at the end of next June.

He could sign a pre-contract agreement with Steven Gerrard’s side from January.

As revealed by this site on August 9th, Brentford are also keeping tabs on the centre-midfielder.

When asked by Football Insider if Rothwell would be a good addition to the Gers, Campbell said: “Rothwell is a very solid Championship player.

“I think he’d do very well up at Rangers. Steven Gerrard is a smart cookie, how he’s doing his business.

“The Championship is a good league. It should not be underestimated.

“The Championship players tend to adjust well to Scottish football because it is similar in style. It is crash, bang, wallop. It’s non-stop, about the fight. You have to have high energy to succeed in both leagues.

“I think Rothwell would do very well there. No transfer fee needed. That would be an Ibrox bargain.”

Rothwell has been a key player for Blackburn this season.

He has contributed one goal and four assists in 14 Championship appearances.
