Roy Keane has Ian Wright agreeing with him on Sheffield Wednesday: ‘Unbelievable’
Sheffield Wednesday were feeling the love as Roy Keane and Ian Wright came to an agreement over Hillsborough Stadium.
Sadly, the Owls’ relegation to League One has already been confirmed, currently sitting on minus five points at the bottom of the Championship table after being deducted 18 points.
The club went into administration in October 2025, and with relegation now confirmed, the main targets are to keep Wednesday afloat and keep everything operating while a new buyer is found.
With four first-division titles in their trophy cabinet, the Owls are one of the most prestigious clubs in the country, and it is clear from the conversation between Keane and Wright just how loved their stadium is.
Hillsborough Stadium gets special mention in Premier League talk
Speaking on The Overlap (9 April) on their favourite Premier League grounds, Wright said: “For me, it’s Villa Park and Sheffield Wednesday. Yeah, I like Sheffield Wednesday.”
Keane replied: “Do you like Sheffield Wednesday? When you talk about iconic moments, when the referee was pushed, that was mad, wasn’t it?”
Wright responded: Yeah, that was unbelievable. That should’ve been in there,” before later adding: “The thing with Villa Park and Sheffield Wednesday, they used to be the semi-final venues, so I love those places when they’re full.
The 39,732-seater stadium will soon play host to League One matches, but with five games of the Championship season remaining, the fans will do their best to make the atmosphere electric.
Sheffield Wednesday’s stadium deserves to be in the conversation
There is absolutely no doubt that Hillsborough is one of the most iconic stadiums in the United Kingdom.
From Steel City derbies to FA Cup semi-finals, Hillsborough has seen it all, and absolutely deserves to be amongst the conversation for the Premier League’s best stadiums.
Unfortunately, it will be an even longer wait until the Owls are back in England’s top flight, having not been in the division since the 1999-2000 campaign.
If the right owners are found, though, there will be a strong hope amongst the supporters that Wednesday can rise back up the leagues, back to where the club belongs.
Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover should be a simple process, and fans will want to put all of their problems behind them as soon as possible.
