Ruben Amorim is ‘finished’ at Man United – ‘There’s no way back’

Man United have endured another wretched start to the season as questions continue to be asked about Ruben Amorim’s future.

Amorim’s side fell to a 3-1 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, meaning the boss has won just nine of his 33 league games in charge at Old Trafford.

That loss came courtesy of a brace from Igor Thiago and a late strike from Mathias Jensen, with Benjamin Sesko grabbing his first goal for the club in between.

There is now a belief that Amorim’s time at Man United has come to an end following the result after a string of underwhelming displays regardless of the results.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains determined to back Amorim despite the poor start to the season and has dismissed suggestions he could now be sacked.

Ruben Amorim faces growing sack threat despite public stance

Despite the public show of support Amorim, frustrations and concerns are not being ignored behind the scenes, with tensions continuing to rise.

That is according to their former chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, as he exclusively told Football Insider that there is “no way back” for the boss.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, insisted people have already given up on Amorim.

“A lot of people have already given up on Amorim,” he told Football Insider.

“That’s the case amongst the fans, amongst neutrals, and I don’t doubt it’s the case with some of the staff as well because he isn’t showing anything to prove them wrong.

“Even his press conferences don’t inspire any belief or hope, he’s as miserable after a win as he is after a defeat and there always seems to be an issue.

“On the pitch, he makes the same mistakes time after time, but insists on sticking to this style of play when it’s been proven it doesn’t work.

“You can blame the players, of course, but he was backed in the transfer market with plenty of money to sign players he wanted and there’s still been no improvement.

“There’s no way back for him at this stage, even if the board have decided to back him, because it’s become clear things aren’t going to change.

“Delaying any decision for now only means they’ll have to do it at some point in the future, because realistically he’s finished there, he can’t turn it around.

“You’d say the only way to really win back favour is to start winning games, but there’s been no evidence on the pitch that they’re going to make that happen.”

Amorim’s time at Old Trafford appears to be coming to an end, whether that decision is made sooner or later, as results are not getting any better for United.

Man United line up potential Amorim replacement

With speculation about the manager’s future ongoing at Man United, plans are already being drawn up behind the scenes to identify a potential replacement.

Man United have identified Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva as replacements for Amorim should they decide to pull the trigger.

Southgate has been a long-term target for United, while Glasner’s success with Crystal Palace and Silva’s with Fulham has placed them firmly on their shortlist.

Andoni Iraola is also believed to be on the list of options at Old Trafford, but Bournemouth want Iraola to sign a new contract at the Vitality Stadium.

However, Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Man United are unlikely to sack Amorim imminently and insist he will be the man to turn around their fortunes.
