Ruben Amorim ‘left shaking his head’ at Man United ‘frailty’

Man United have a chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League despite the issues Ruben Amorim still has to fix.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes “inconsistency” is harming Man United‘s top four chances.

Man United drew 4-4 with Bournemouth to extend their unbeaten streak to four matches, with Amorim’s side having lost just one of their last 10 Premier League games.

Amorim has been under pressure at Man United, with the Red Devils finishing 15th last season, but they are now just two points off the top four.

Man United ‘have a chance’ of top four finish

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – saw “glimpses” of progress in Man United’s match against Bournemouth.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Amorim must improve his record at Old Trafford.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “We saw the 4-4, one of the more exciting games we’ve seen this season. But again, defensive frailties, but I did see glimpses with Man United of more fight, more cohesion in midfield going forward.

“Certainly a lot of shots on goal, etc. So listen, all the Man United fans must have left happy. But Amorim has got to be left shaking his head at the inconsistency. That’s what’s happening. I mean everybody understands that.

“You look at the results, they have been up and down, certainly at Old Trafford. They’ve had a couple of good away results, but still at Old Trafford, draws and losses, it’s certainly not what he’d be looking for.

“Yet they remain up there in the top six. So he’s got a chance now because everybody else is doing the same. The whole league seems to be pretty inconsistent. Even Arsenal have been inconsistent to a degree.”

Champions League a major requirement for Man United

Amorim has been told that Man United must qualify for the Champions League after the club released their first quarter financial results.

This is the second season in a row that Man United have not participated in the competition, which is starting to impact their finances.

Debt continues to rise at Man United, despite a £13million operating profit from the cuts implemented by owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
