Oliver Glasner has ‘hit the nail on the head’ while Ruben Amorim messes up every time at Man United

Ruben Amorim has been urged to learn from Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, and not just tactically, after his recent outbursts at Man United.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade and remains very well-connected there, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Crystal Palace boss is much better at dealing with the media.

Man United looked at Glasner as an option to replace Amorim when he faced calls for his sacking following a difficult season last time out.

The two managers both deploy the same 5-2-3 formation, although with key tactical tweaks that make the final product of their styles vastly different.

However, it is the contrasting press conference antics of the pair which have now been highlighted given concerns about the Man United boss’ recent comments.

Ruben Amorim in the firing line at Man United

Brown told Football Insider on 16 December that Amorim has raised the pressure at Man United with his bizarre press conference rants after throwing players under the bus.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson during United’s most successful period, insisted that Amorim could learn a thing or two from Glasner.

It’s good to have ambition, but it’s important to be realistic too,” he told Football Insider.

“I hear a lot of that from Glasner, he is somebody I like to listen to when he speaks to the press, he doesn’t waste words and often hits the nail on the head.

“I can’t think of anything he’s said that I’ve disagreed with, he defends his players and his club, but he’s honest about their position and what he wants to do.

“With the fixtures they’ve had recently there has been a bit of frustration from him, but even then he never says anything out of line.

“Ruben Amorim could certainly learn a thing or two from him, because almost every week he says something outlandish that makes you question what he’s talking about.

“Whether it’s about the fans, young kids not at the club, players on the fringes, he makes some strange comments which are not becoming of a Man United manager.

“No, I think Oliver Glasner is very impressive both as a manager and the way he handles his duties off the pitch.”

Could Oliver Glasner still end up at Man United?

Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Man United view Glasner as an option to replace Ruben Amorim should they decide to pull the trigger on his position.

Although the club ultimately through their backing behind Amorim, a decision which has paid off after a positive turn of form lately, they remain among Glasner’s admirers.

The Austrian is now expected to leave Palace at the end of the season, placing a number of elite clubs on alert to his potential availability.

Brown told Football Insider on 19 December that Crystal Palace are preparing for Glasner to leave and are already assessing potential replacements.

This comes after reports linked Palace with Getafe manager Jose Bordalas, although despite the claims, he has yet to make a decision about his future.
