Ruben Amorim sack latest: Man United stance discussed after surprise claim he could quit

Ruben Amorim is fighting for his job at Man United after a dismal start to the season with continued questions about his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Following Man United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford last weekend, the pressure on his position has ramped up yet again, with serious questions now being asked.

Meanwhile, United have already begun searching for potential alternatives, with Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola heavily linked with the position.

While the boss has received the public backing of Old Trafford officials including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, his position is far from secure as things stand.

As a result, it has been suggested that Amorim could walk away from the job before he is sacked, with the pressure beginning to take its toll.

Man United respond as Ruben Amorim unlikely to quit

Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Man United are not planning to sack Amorim and remain keen for him to turn around their fortunes.

Meanwhile, as I explained on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Amorim is considered extremely unlikely to walk away from his position, while he has retained the backing of INEOS and Ratcliffe behind the scenes.

The boss would not be prepared to quit his role despite the pressure on his position, and the club are not expected to rush into a decision yet.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained “I would be very surprised if he resigned and quit Man United, he doesn’t come across as a quitter.

“He’s obviously come under a lot of scrutiny following the defeat to Brentford last weekend, that’s three defeats now in the league and also knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

“So there are big question marks over Amorim’s future, he’s led them to just 19 victories out of 49 matches which is nowhere near good enough for Man United.

“But he still has the backing of INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, so they’re not going to rush into a decision.

“I don’t think Amorim will be ready to call it quit just yet, it would be a shock if he was willing to do that.”

However, despite the public show of support for Amorim, frustrations and concerns are not being ignored behind the scenes, with tensions continuing to rise.

Man United considering Amorim alternatives

Former Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 29 September that Amorim is “finished” at Man United with “no way back” after recent results.

As a result, the path is being paved behind the scenes for his eventual departure with a number of top bosses considered to replace him.

Brown told Football Insider that Southgate is a leading candidate for Man United as the board aim to bring stability and a steady hand to the position.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Fabian Hurzeler is an option to replace Amorim and has impressed the club with his work at Brighton.

Alongside the likes of Glasner, Iraola and Marco Silva, Premier League experience could be a valuable asset for the Reds’ next manager to turn their fortunes around.
