Ruben Amorim to promote Man United teen sensation to first-XI – Insider

Man United are expected to hand 17-year-old Harry Amass a chance to impress in the first-team under Ruben Amorim, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Amass is one of the most highly-regarded prospects in their academy.

This comes amid speculation over the his future after Football Insider revealed that Aston Villa are keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the January window.

Amass has been named on the bench on four occasions so far this season, including twice in the Champions League, but has yet to make his senior debut.

Luke Shaw’s persistent injury issues looked set to provide the teenager with his chance, but Erik ten Hag opted to use makeshift options in his place.

However, following the arrival of Amorim, the new boss is expected to hand first-team opportunities to a number of young players including the left-back.

Harry Amass set for first-team chance at Man United

Brown told Football Insider on 18 November that United would not entertain talks about Amass’ exit as he remains very highly-rated at the club.

Now, the former scout with a wealth of experience in player recruitment and development at the top level has insisted Amorim is keen to put faith in some of the club’s young players, with Amass tipped as one of the key beneficiaries.

It’s only a matter of time until he’s given his chance,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s a very talented player, but he’s got to make the jump to become a first-team player.

“I have no doubt he’s got the ability to do that.

“His biggest asset is that he can play, he’s a natural footballer and he loves having possession of the ball.

“But we have to remember, he’s a young player. He’s very talented and the club have been impressed by him, but they’re also keen not to just throw him in.

“He’s been on the bench a few times, so I’d expect he’ll be given minutes at the end of games at some stage, then if he impresses, he’ll play more minutes.

“He has to be patient, but he’ll be able to work his way in, especially with Shaw’s injuries.”
