Ruben Amorim told Sunderland clash is a must-win after Man United sack latest

Ruben Amorim is still fighting to keep his job at Man United despite having been given the backing of the ownership in recent days.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains determined to back Amorim despite the poor start to the season and has dismissed suggestions he could be sacked in the immediate future.

However, there is now a feeling that Amorim’s time at Man United has come to an end following the result after a string of underwhelming displays regardless of the results.

Former Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 29 September that Amorim has “no way back” at Man United after losing the support of the fans.

With the October international break looming, and several Premier League managers having been dismissed already, the boss could be next on the list.

Sunderland clash a must-win for Ruben Amorim

Following Man United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford last weekend, the boss has won just nine of his 33 league games in charge at Old Trafford, with serious questions being asked.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Sunderland game is now a must-win for Amorim with the pressure on his position set to become “unbearable” if they fall to yet another league defeat.

The newly-promoted Black Cats will visit Old Trafford on a strong run of form which has lifted them to fifth in the Premier League with 11 points from six games.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It still seems he has the backing of Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. So they’re not going to rush into anything.

“Huge game against Sunderland this weekend, it’ll be seen as a must-win for him.

“He really could do with a win going into that international break just to sort of ease any growing pressure on him because if they were to lose, you’d imagine that pressure would be pretty unbearable heading into that international break.”

Calls for the manager to be dismissed have reignited amongst the fans, with the international break seen as a likely opportunity to let him go.

Man United lining up replacement for Amorim

Football Insider revealed on on 19 September that Man United are unlikely to sack Amorim imminently and insist he will be the man to turn around their fortunes.

However, they have already begun assessing potential alternatives who could be available to replace him should they decide to pull the trigger.

Man United have identified three top candidates for the job, with Oliver Glasner, Marco Silva and Gareth Southgate emerging as their top targets.

While Premier League experience is not seen as crucial to their next hire, there is a feeling that the next boss needs to be ready to make an immediate impact.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler is on Man United’s list, with a number of different options being assessed.
