Ruben Dias’ future at Man City ‘in doubt’ after what fans witnessed vs Newcastle

Man City fans have called for Abdukodir Khusanov to be restored to the starting line-up after Ruben Dias’ display against Newcastle.

Khusanov replaced Dias at half-time in Man City‘s 2-1 win over Newcastle, which reduced the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to two points.

Nico O’Reilly netted both goals in the first half for the hosts, either side of an equaliser from Lewis Hall for the visitors.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now won three Premier League games in a row as they look to ramp up the pressure on Arsenal in the run-in, and win their fifth title in six seasons.

Abdukodir Khusanov ‘far better’ than Ruben Dias

Dias was yellow carded and won none of his ground duels as the 28-year-old struggled against Newcastle’s attack in the first half.

The Portugal international has been a constant starter in Guardiola’s back four when available, but the Spaniard decided to bring Dias off at the break, and he confirmed it was a tactical change post-match.

Khusanov went on to impress supporters with his second half performance, with the 21-year-old nullifying the threat of Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga in-behind.

Man City fans now believe that Dias should be dropped to the bench, and that Khusanov should partner Marc Guehi at the back.

One fan said Dias is “in trouble” if he wants to keep his place in the side due to Khusanov, who should “100% be starting.”

Man City targeting summer move for Newcastle star

Man City and Newcastle have still got to play each other once more this season, with the pair having been drawn together in the FA Cup.

Both clubs could also be doing business with each other in the summer transfer window with uncertainty over Tino Livramento’s future on Tyneside.

Newcastle remain clear that they do not wish to sell the full-back in the summer, and want to tie the 23-year-old down to a new contract.

Guardiola though is keen to bring Livramento to Man City, with right-back a position that needs strengthening in the team.

Man City could lure Livramento with Champions League football, with Newcastle set to miss out on the competition next season.
