Ryan Gravenberch and Milos Kerkez respond to Florian Wirtz’s two-word Liverpool message

Florian Wirtz posted on social media as he begins pre-season training with Liverpool following his high-profile move to the club.

Liverpool completed the signing of Wirtz back in June for a club-record fee of £116million, beating off competition from the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich to land the highly sought-after midfielder.

As revealed by Football Insider, Wirtz had made Liverpool his preferred destination after meeting with club officials and his family, ultimately deciding to join the reigning Premier League champions.

The 22-year-old arrives off the back of a stellar season at Bayer Leverkusen in 2024/25, where he scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists across 45 appearances in all competitions and his arrival is a major statement of intent by the club.

Now, the German international has shared a glimpse of life at Liverpool by posting a pre-season training update, giving fans an insight into his preparations as the squad returns ahead of the new campaign.

Florian Wirtz shares Liverpool training update ahead of debut season

The German midfielder shared images from Liverpool’s pre-season training session with the simple caption: “Getting started.”

Ryan Gravenberch and Milos Kerkez, who also featured in the images, showed their support by liking the post.

A number of other players also interacted with the update, including Conor Bradley, Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala, and former teammate Granit Xhaka—who has recently been linked with a move to Sunderland.

Although the Reds paid a club-record fee to secure the German’s signature, Football Insider revealed Wirtz is could cost Liverpool in excess of £200m once add-ons and wages are included, making it one of, if not, the biggest significant financial outlays in the club’s history.

Still, the 22-year-old arrives with pedigree. He played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign in 2023/24 and is widely considered one of the top young talents in world football.

Liverpool’s summer spending is showing no signs of slowing, with close to £200 million already invested in the likes of Wirtz, Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong. But the club are now set to add another name to the list.

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Hugo Ekitike after Newcastle made it clear that Alexander Isak is not for sale.

Slot has made a new striker a priority, particularly with Darwin Nunez expected to leave the club this summer. While Isak looks increasingly likely to remain at St James’ Park, reports suggest Liverpool have already agreed personal terms with Ekitike, beating off interest from both Man United and Newcastle.
