Ryan Gravenberch responds to Mathys Tel after Liverpool ruin Tottenham debut
Tottenham attacker Mathys Tel has spoken out after making his debut for the club in their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Tel joined Spurs in the final days of the winter, signing on loan from Bayern Munich in a deal that includes the option to buy.
It was a dramatic u-turn for the 19-year-old after Tel initially turned down a move to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Having ultimately joined the club, he was handed his Tottenham debut in challenging circumstances on Thursday (6 February), coming off the bench in the first-half at Anfield, after an injury to Richarlison.

Having been brought off the bench in that game, Tel found it hard to get into the game as Liverpool ran riot to seal their place in the Carabao Cup final with that emphatic victory.
After the game, the new Tottenham signing took to Instagram to reflect on that defeat on debut, with a message that simply read: “Head up”.
Among those to show their support for the attacker was Liverpool star Gravenberch. The midfielder was previously a teammate of the attacker’s at Bayern Munich, and was among those to like his post.

Football Insider Verdict
It was a difficult night for Tel on debut, but those of a Spurs persuasion will still have faith he can come good for them.
With Liverpool dominating Tottenham in terms of possession and territory, supply to the 19-year-old was sorely lacking, meaning there were few chances for him to show what he can do.
There will be plenty more opportunities when he can do that, and with Richarlison potentially not facing another spell on the sidelines, they may not be too far away either.
