Ryan Jack: McAvennie ‘gutted’ by Rangers injury update

Frank McAvennie is “gutted” for Ryan Jack as he is set to spend more time on the Rangers sidelines.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the midfielder’s fitness.

On Tuesday (8 February), Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed Jack, 29, has been sidelined by an ankle problem.

However, the Gers boss claims the injury is “not serious” though he will miss Wednesday’s (9 February) game against Hibernian.

Sunday’s (6 February) game against Hearts was the 29-year-old’s fifth league appearance of the season and only his third since he suffered a setback in his recovery during December.

McAvennie is gutted for Jack after his latest injury setback.

“It must be good for the fans to see Ryan Jack back,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It just seems like he can’t shake this little injury and that is a blow for Rangers.

“He looked very bright when I saw him at Celtic Park in the Old Firm. It was the perfect time for him to come on.

“I don’t know how bad this injury is but it’s worrying that he can’t quite get fully fit, I’m gutted for him.

“He’s a game-changer for Rangers. I have said before I am a fan of his. Scotland miss him when he isn’t there.

“Rangers have plenty of quality in that midfield so I’m sure they will be fine but not having Jack there is far from ideal for them.”

Rangers beat Hearts 5-0 at Ibrox on Sunday as they kept the pressure on Celtic at the top of the table.

After Wednesday’s game against Hibs, Rangers travel to Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup.
