Ryan Sessegnon: Pundit issues ‘big’ Tottenham claim after Antonio Conte decision

Ryan Sessegnon has a future at Tottenham despite his first-half substitution against Wolves, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, conceded the 21-year-old’s confidence “will have taken another big dent”.

Sessegnon was substituted after just 28 minutes with Tottenham already trailing by two in an eventual 2-0 home loss against Wolves on Sunday (13 February).

Dejan Kulusevski replaced the youngster as Antonio Conte looked to turn the tide of the game with a change in shape.

Sessegnon was sent off against NS Mura in the first of five starts since the Italian took the reins at Tottenham.

Campbell insisted the former Fulham man is “young enough and talented enough” to turn his Spurs career around.

“He’s got a future at Spurs, there’s no doubt about it,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“When it’s a tactical change like that, it could have been almost anyone who came off.

“Conte wanted to change the way Spurs were set up because they were playing into Wolves’ hands.

“At the end of the day, managers sometimes have to make changes like that and unfortunately for Sessegnon, it was him who had to come off.

“I’m sure his confidence will have taken another big dent – especially after that sending off earlier in the season. But it could’ve been any one of about six or seven players coming off.

“He’s young enough and talented enough to bounce back and have a future at Tottenham, for sure.”

Sessegnon joined the north London side for a reported initial fee of £25million in 2019.

The 21-year-old has made just 22 Spurs appearances and was sent out on loan to German side Hoffenheim last term.
