Newcastle fans say the same thing about Eddie Howe being ‘sacked tonight’
Newcastle United supporters are completely fed up with Eddie Howe after his side threw away a two-goal lead against Chelsea.
Nick Woltemade made up for his own goal in the Tyne-Wear derby last weekend, netting a first-half brace in front of a bouncing St James’ Park crowd on Saturday, 20 December.
Matters could have been made far easier for the Magpies had Alejandro Garnacho been sent off by Andy Madley, but a spirited second 45 minutes was inspired by a wonderful Reece James free-kick.
Joao Pedro pounced on a Malick Thiaw mistake to even up the score, with another five cautions being handed out by referee Madley during a tightly fought final 25 minutes up north.
Newcastle fans want Eddie Howe sacked after Chelsea scenes
Howe spoke during the half-time break about how his side needed to keep up the same momentum, continuing to chase the Blues, and wear their opponents down.
However, just 21 minutes into the second half, the Magpies had conceded an equaliser, with supporters feeling the final nail had been driven into the manager’s coffin, calling for his sacking tonight.
One supporter suggested that the only way to get Howe sacked would be to protest, with another supporter stating that the former Bournemouth man is now “leading the sack race”.
- @Jasmine31417: “Wish we could just end the season now, sack Howe.”
- @blondfjr: “Eddie Howe isn’t taking Newcastle anywhere. Would be harsh to sack him, but no way he should be there next season.”
- @MarkAnthonyWood: “Eddie Howe is leading the sack race.”
Andy Madley leaves Magpies frustrated at St James’ Park
As well as failing to send off Garnacho for his challenge on Jacob Ramsey, Madley made several other wrong decisions, causing both sets of fans to become infuriated by the officiating.
A lengthy goal check from semi-automated offside technology also left fans wondering if these “improvements” really are helping the game, though that is nothing new.
Both managers will want to hear from Howard Webb, the head of the PGMOL, after some controversial decisions on Saturday afternoon, but supporters are rarely happy with explanations either way.
The Magpies missing out on some key decisions could have disastrous effects back at St James’ Park, especially if the hierarchy is listening out for the post-match reaction from fans.
After lifting the Carabao Cup last season, Howe was expected to push forward with his team, but all they have done so far in 2025-26 is take steps backwards in the Premier League.
