Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah development ‘no surprise’ for Liverpool after statement issued – pundit
Paul Robinson has claimed Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s international workload “is far from ideal” for Liverpool.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League goalkeeper insisted Jurgen Klopp can have no complaints with the scheduling.
Mane and Salah have both played 210 minutes of football over the international break, with Senegal beating Egypt to a place at this year’s World Cup.
There were question marks over Salah’s fitness heading into the second leg of the World Cup qualifier.
However, as quoted by the Mirror (28 March), Egypt’s FA issued a statement to allay injury fears.
Salah subsequently completed the full 120 minutes of Egypt’s 1-0 loss to Senegal.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the duo’s workload, Robinson said:
“It’s far from ideal but you know as a manager that these games are coming. It is not as if it has popped out of the blue.
“Managers complain about the fixture pile-up but they know this is going to happen. It is not a surprise. If you sign world-class players you know they are going to be travelling around the globe playing in big games.
“It is about how you manage these players and their game time. Yes, you don’t want your most important players playing two high intensity games over an international break but it frustrates me when managers complain about it.”
